International Film Festival Comes to Langley

 

The Langley School District Foundation in partnership with Langley Film Nights Shot in the Dark and the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) is proud to present the First Annual and Unprecedented Langley International Film Festival!

 

Featuring six screenings from February 19 to 21, as well as an Opening Night Gala, the festival is already creating huge buzz within the Langley community and beyond.

 

The festival opens with NUMB, an edgy, provocative film directed by Langley’s Jason Goode. Shot entirely in British Columbia, the film is Jason’s premiere screening and the cast and crew will be in attendance both at the film and during the opening night gala.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 19 – 7 PM
Numb : When a couple in financial distress discover GPS coordinates that promise to lead to stolen gold they must partner with a pair of mysterious hitchhikers to enter the remote winter wilderness to recover the coins. Directed by Jason Goode.

FRIDAY, FEB.19 – 9:00 – 10:30 PM
Opening Night Gala: Aprés movie featuring wine, hors d’oeuvres and discussions with director, cast and crew from Numb at Lelem Restaurant in Fort Langley.

SATURDAY, FEB. 20  - 1:00 – 3:00 PM
Sleeping Giant:
A finely observed, whip-smart study of the emotional extremes of adolescence and their potentially catastrophic effects.

SATURDAY, FEB. 20 4:30 – 6:30 PM
Carol: A romantic drama starring Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Sarah Paulson, and Kyle Chandler, the film is set in 1952 New York City, and tells the story of a young aspiring photographer and her relationship with an older woman going through a difficult divorce.

SATURDAY, FEB. 20 8:00-10:00 PM
Montage of student-produced vignettes: Fascinating explorations as only teenagers can write, describe and limn onto film. Meet the students, discover their focus and herald in the next generation of Felinis, Spielbergs and Chaplins.

SUNDAY, FEB. 21 1:00 – 2:30 PM
Trumbo: In 1947, Dalton Trumbo was Hollywood’s top screenwriter, until he and other artists were jailed and blacklisted for their political beliefs.

SUNDAY, FEB. 21 3:30 – 5:00 PM
room: After five-year-old Jack and his mother escape from the enclosed surroundings that Jack has known his entire life, the boy makes a thrilling discovery. Starring Langley resident and student Jacob Tremblay.

 

All screenings will be held at Chief Sepass Theatre at 9096 Trattle in Fort Langley. Tickets are $10 per screening. Gala is $25. Three-day pass including all six screenings is $50. All proceeds from the First Annual Langley International Film Festival will support arts and film programs in Langley schools.
