Dear Parents and students of LFAS
This year a few teachers and students are going to the lower eastside of Vancouver on Christmas Eve to give out items to those less fortunate. We are now in need of BREAD to make the sandwiches and will be picking it up from McGavins Bread Basket on the Langley Bypass tomorrow at 10 am. We are asking anyone who wants to donate 25 cents towards a loaf of bread to bring it to the counselors room prior to 10 am FRIDAY morning. There will be a container marked BREAD FUND on the table so feel free to drop your quarter in the container in the morning. Every little bit helps!!!
Merry Christmas

School is open today Wednesday December 19
Dear LFAS Parents,
School is open today Wednesday December 19.
Information regarding the status of schools during winter weather conditions can be found on the Langley School Districts webpage at www.sd35.bc.ca and also on their twitter and facebook pages.
Div 5-2's health & career project
Please come and check out the grade 5-2's health & career project,
"This Christmas, Choose a Special Gift", located in the front foyer. This is a collection (with a Christmas spin!) of facts, cartoon strips, letters and posters about smoking that we hope will inspire people to make the decision to never start smoking or to seriously consider quitting smoking this Christmas. Encourage your friends to check it out as well.

Weather Information
The decision whether or not to close schools due to weather conditions is ultimately the responsibility of the Superintendent, who must balance the safety of students, staff and parents with the need to provide learning. The decision is not taken lightly and is the result of a carefully thought out process that is reviewed after each experience and refined if necessary.
Decisions about school schedules and bus route changes are almost always made in the early morning before school. This allows for the most current weather information to factor into the decision. This information is communicated immediately, generally before 6:30 a.m.
We understand these decisions have an impact on our families and appreciate your patience during these severe weather situations. While we know that our students and families are best served when we are open, our top concern is the safety of our students and staff.
The final decision to send students to school resides with parents since they know the road and weather conditions in their respective areas. Parents/guardians should be reminded to dress their children warmly during inclement weather conditions as schools are sometimes cooler than normal.
If you have access to the Internet, current information can be found by clicking on the School Status / Closure Info link found on the main page of our District website. If your power is out and you don't have mobile Internet access, try contacting a friend or relative to ask them to check the website for you.
Current information is also posted on the Langley School District's Information Hotline at 604-532-1453 (Do not hang up if your call isn't connected right away.) Local radio stations are also informed of school status in Langley. Tune in to CKWX 1130 AM, CKNW 980 AM, Country Radio 107.1 FM or CBC 690 AM for updates. We will also be posting updates to Twitter @LangleySchools and Facebook.

Don't forget to buy your PKSS Christmas Card
Operation Kenyan Christmas
Please watch the video link below
watch?v=429dPb5yhdU
The earth continues to be a cruelly unequal planet…but there is a small corner of the world where you have made a profound difference.
The Langley Fine Art School’s premier Christmas event is launching its 7th anniversary celebration of world citizenship, - Operation Kenyan Christmas.-
Parents, teachers and students are asking families to substitute a typical retail purchase with one of our beautiful Christmas donor cards.
Every year that we have asked, you have responded with amazing generosity. Typically, our school raises $30,000 to $40,000 every year.
Our last two campaigns have put hundreds of children through high school, built three school libraries and purchased 10 cows to establish a biogas program that supplies fuel to cook the student’s lunch, milk for their tea, a surplus that is sold to pay for other necessities and a steady supply of organic fertilizer. Local forests are spared, and the students’ have full bellies.
When you think of what to buy for your loved ones that have everything they need …. give a donor card and give the gift of education to those that are desperate for it.
In the true spirit of Christmas…give from the heart.
Merry Christmas from all of us at Project Kenya Sister Schools.
*Cards can be purchased at the office.
Cheques can be make out to PKSS, for donations over $25.00 please make your cheques out to AFRETECH for a tax receipt.

News from the Community RCMP Office
In the last week there has been a huge spike in thefts from automobiles in both Walnut Grove and in Fort Langley. There is a big area of concentration of theft from automobiles in Bedford Landing.
This is a reminder to parents and staff to take care to appropriately secure their vehicle and to make sure that items are NOT left in plain view.
