SECONDARY TIME TABLES / COUNSELLING
Students will receive a final copy of their timetable the first day of
school. When requesting course changes,
please be aware of the following:
·
Grade 12 students and students with
incomplete schedules have priority.
§ Addition of resource or ESL blocks is also a high priority.
§ Any requests for specific teachers will not be accepted.
§ We are limited this year by legislation to maintain hard maximum class
sizes of 30.
§ Please make an appointment with your counselor to make any changes.
Times for timetable changes:
§ Grade 10, 11 and 12 – Ms. De Little
§ From now until September 14th.
§
September 14th Last day for
course changes
§
September 28th Drop dead
date for all course changes. After this date the course will remain on the
transcript.
§ Grades 8 and 9 – Ms. Orlando
§ From now until September 14th
(Please put in writing on blue form found in the counselling office)
Note: One spare is given in grade 10 if the student is in two year-long,
outside the timetable courses at LFAS e.g. choir and drama ensemble. Applications can be made in September by
filling out a form which will be in the counselling office and each application
will be reviewed by the administration.
In addition to carrying two outside the time table courses at LFAS, junior
students desiring spares must be academically successful and have shown from
past behaviours that they will make good use of their spare block.
Tuesday, 3rd September 2013 - First Day of School for Grade 1-8 and New Students only
Tuesday, 3rd September 2013 - First Day of
School for Grade 1-8 and New Students
only
NEW STUDENTS
GRADES 9-12 will report to the Chief Sepass
Theatre from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on September 3 for orientation.
There are a few changes in the way that we have designed the
first day of school for 2013/14. Please note the times and locations connected
to your children.
·
Grades
1-5 students
will be in attendance from 9:00 am - 10:30 am. Homeroom lists will be
posted the morning of 3rd September.
Homeroom
lists will be posted on the outside doors of classrooms and on the doors at the
main entrance. If you are new to Langley
Fine Arts School, please feel free to come into the main foyer by the
office and consult with a map or one of the staff who will be available to
greet you.
We ask
that once you know where you are going, please head back outside to wait for
teachers to let you into your classroom. It is always a very busy day, and it
is much easier for office staff and for new families if you remain outside
until the teachers open their doors.
The
first day is very exciting for students, for teachers and for parents. We ask
that you allow us the opportunity to work with and to get to know your child.
The best way for us to do that is for you to say goodbye to your child at the
door. If you are planning on staying around the school until 10:30am, please
take advantage of the library. It will be set up to host and welcome parents.
Please do not stay by the outside doors talking or waiting. It can be very
distracting for students and makes their transition back to school more
stressful.
You can
pick up your child at 10:30am at the outside classroom door.
·
Middle
Years (Grades 6, 7, 8)
students will be in attendance from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm.
Grade 6/7 students will meet in
the Chief Sepass Theatre at 10:30 am. Students will be directed into learning
groups from the theatre. They will meet the two new grade 6 teachers who will join the Middle Years team: Ms. Lindsey Mcclelland will be teaching
Scimatics and _________ (TBA) will teach Humanities. They join Ms. Goetzke, Ms. Lee and the Arts teachers, Ms. Ibbott, Ms.
Boucher, Mr. Lainchbury and Mr. Sarganis.
Grade 8 students will go first to
their home room classes. Lists will be
posted in the foyer. Students will receive timetables and can pay their fees at
this time. The three homerooms will then
join together for orientation activities. Ms. Orlando, Ms. Boucher, Mr. Scotton, and Ms. Steacy will spend the
remaining time with the Grade 8’s.
The
Middle Years is an exciting time! It is also a challenging time for parents, as
their children’s focus shifts from parents to peers. Although it scares us as
parents, this is an important part of learning how to grow up and how to be
successful. We will do everything we can to support parents by communicating
with you and providing you with opportunities to connect with your child’s
teachers and to participate in their learning, but we ask that you respect the
importance of this orientation day by not accompanying your child into the
theatre. We can do a better job if we have the ability to focus our
attention on the learning experiences of all of the students in the Middle
Years.
The
library will be open for parents to spend time with each other if they are
waiting at school for their child to be done for the day.
You
will be able to pick up your Grade 6/7 child outside the Grades 6 and Grade 7
classrooms at 12:00 pm. Grade 8s will be finished at the same time and will be
asked to head outside at this time. We
ask that at Middle Years students leave the school and grounds when dismissed
on this day.
